It All Comes Down To Tonight 🏀

Books are predicting a lopsided game, but join us in rooting for CHAOS 🤪👇

This is the moment we’ve been waiting for … and what a tournament it’s been. From Florida Atlantic making a Cinderella run to the Final Four to zero No. 1 seeds reaching the Elite Eight for the first time in history, this tournament has truly been the definition of Madness.

While UConn is the clear favorite here, San Diego State was the only Final Four team to be ranked in the AP Preseason Poll.

So, who ya got?

Keep scrolling down to see the best bets for tonight’s game, a recap of the insanity that was the Women’s National Championship, and a gigantic MLB fail. 👇

National Championship: No. 5 San Diego St. vs No. 4 UConn

Monday at 9:20 PM on CBS

Brian, our regular writer of Back Office Buzz, is on vacation this week, so this is his boss, Olivia, tapping in. While I know that Brian got his bets in before departing for warmer weather, I’ve got some picks of my own for you.

If you like them, reply to this email and tell Brian that I taught him everything he knows. If you don’t, he’ll be back next week and we’ll pretend this never happened. 😌 But anyway, let’s dive in.

UConn is the HEAVY favorite in this game and has won by double-digits in each of its games this tourney. The Huskies are currently 7.5-point favorites.

That said, I’m locking in San Diego State at +7.5 (-110). This line seems disrespectful for a team that hadn’t allowed more than 64 points all tourney until its game vs. Florida Atlantic that ended with an incredible buzzer-beater.

The Aztecs are an elite defensive team, ranked No. 4 in the country by KenPom. Let’s not forget that.

As I’m betting that the underdog covers, our writer Frank Ammirante also says to bet the Under. There’s a strong correlation between the underdog and the Under, which is currently at 131.5 points.

In addition to the parlay above, there are a few more bets you should consider placing. After all, it is the last time we can bet on college basketball this season. 😢

I’ve got my bets in for tonight, but I’m still not over the buzzer-beater that landed SDSU in the finals. Lamont Butler has ice in his veins for real.

What a Finish to the Women’s Tournament

The women’s championship game included questionable techs, LSU coach Kim Mulkey going absolutely bananas, 187 total points (when the line was set at 157.5) and a Tigers victory.

At the end of the day though, one thing was solidified: Angel Reese is HER.

The LSU forward was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player after posting a double-double (15 points and 10 boards) in the championship game.

While her game should speak for itself, she found herself the subject of controversy online for taunting Iowa star Caitlin Clark. Reese waved her hand in front of her face and followed Clark down the court after Clark made a similar gesture in an earlier round.

After the game, Reese said: “I don’t fit the box that y’all want me to be in. I’m too hood. I’m too ghetto. Y’all told me that all year. But when other people do it, and y’all don’t say nothing. So this is for the girls that look like me. For those that want to speak up for what they believe in. It’s unapologetically you … Twitter is going to go into a rage every time.”

Me? I say louder for the people in the back. Talk that championship talk.

I’m all for it, especially since Reese — like me — is from Baltimore. And she’s got the ring to back it.

Biggest Botch Ever?! ⚾️

Speaking of Baltimore, I had the unfortunate opportunity to go to Boston on Saturday to see the Orioles lose in the absolute grossest fashion I’ve ever witnessed on a baseball field.

Right after this, the Red Sox hit a walk-off homer. I’m sick.

That said, as an Orioles fan, I can’t end this newsletter in any other way than to bet on the Birds to bounce back.
