Over the weekend, New York was blessed with stunning weather. As I took a stroll outside, I could sense the change in the air, marking the end of football season and the beginning of baseball season.
As I walked around, I was daydreaming of baseball season; the scent of freshly cut grass, hot dogs, and peanuts. I could taste the $20 beer I finally got after a 30-minute wait that was worth every penny/minute wasted. I could hear the drunk Phillies fans confidently boasting about their lord and savior, Bryce Harper. I could feel the warm sun beating down on me as I bask in the excitement of the game. There is nothing like the start of baseball season, where fans come together and celebrate America’s favorite pastime.
World Series Best Bet 2023
The Blue Jays are too talented to remain out of the spotlight for long, and 2023 may be their year. Their offensive core of Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Bo Bichette, George Springer, Matt Chapman, and Alejandro Kirk can be a dominant force.
If you are looking for value, give Toronto a shot at +1500.
World Series Contenders 2023
The Astros have reached the World Series in three out of the past four seasons, and there is little reason to think they won’t do it again.
However, the last team to repeat as champions was the 1998-2000 New York Yankees, so history suggests a new team will be crowned.
They return an elite offense led by José Altuve, Yordan Álvarez, Alex Bregman, and postseason hero Jeremy Peña. In addition, they have added former MVP José Abreu to the mix.
The Yankees added Carlos Rodón to their rotation, which now gives them one of the strongest starting five in the game.
They will need superstar Aaron Judge to stay healthy if they are to compete for a championship, but they also have a deep farm system if they feel the need to add an impact player during the season.
New York lost a two-time Cy Young award winner in free agency (deGrom) and replaced him with a three-time Cy Young award winner (Verlander). A starting rotation consisting of Verlander, Max Scherzer, Kodai Senga, Carlos Carrasco, and José Quintana makes the Queens baseball club arguably even more dangerous in 2023.
The Mets will return in 2023 with an offense that was fifth in the majors in runs scored, having re-signed Brandon Nimmo to a long-term contract. However, they could receive a real boost if prospects Brett Baty and Francisco Álvarez are able to contribute this season in a meaningful way.
The Padres return a stud lineup headlined by Manny Machado, Juan Soto, and Fernando Tatís Jr., in addition to the signing of star shortstop Xander Bogaerts and veterans Nelson Cruz and Matt Carpenter.
There are few teams with a stronger 1-4 in their starting lineup.
World Series Long Shot 2023
A young core of Tim Anderson, Eloy Jiménez, Andrew Vaughn, and Luis Robert can strike fear into any team, while the addition of Andrew Benintendi gives their lineup more depth.
If the lineup can stay on the field, and Lucas Giolito can bounce back to lead a rotation with Dylan Cease and Lance Lynn, the White Sox will be very dangerous.
