THINGS WE LEARNED IN WEEK 3 🤔📚

De’Von Achane Looks Like A Star

Dolphins’ rookie running back De’Von Achane wildly exceeded expectations in his increased role in Week 3, rushing for 203 yards and two touchdowns while adding another 30 yards and two scores through the air.

While Raheem Mostert also had a big day (142 total yards and four touchdowns), this Miami offense is absolutely elite and can support two high-end running backs in fantasy football.

If Achane is still available in your league, get ready to put at least 90% of your FAAB dollars on him, as the upside is immense in this high-octane attack.

C.J. Stroud Continues To Thrive

Texans’ rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud had another big day in an upset victory over the division rival Jaguars, throwing for 280 yards and two touchdowns, including a 68-yard score to fellow first-year player Tank Dell.

This Houston passing game has been one of the biggest surprises of the NFL season so far, putting receivers like Dell, Nico Collins, and even Robert Woods on the fantasy radar.

You can fire up Stroud as a matchup-based streamer, while Collins (WR2/3 fringe), Dell (upside WR3), and Woods (high-end WR4) are all worth rostering as well.

4 PLAYERS YOU NEED TO TARGET ON WAIVERS 🎯

Every week, our Scott Engel dives deep into the waiver wire to scour players that you should be picking up to get ahead of the rest of your leaguemates. Let’s take a look at this week’s top adds:

De’Von Achane, Miami Dolphins (46%)

This electrifying Miami rookie was starting to become a fantasy football afterthought after he missed the opener and had only two touches in Week 2. Now, after a historic Week 3 performance, Achane will definitely command huge FAAB bids on the fantasy football waiver wire this week.

An amazing 51.3-point outing in a laugher of a romp over Denver included 203 rushing yards and four TDs from scrimmage. Achane looks like a fantasy league-winning acquisition, and you just have to decide if emptying most of a FAAB account is something you want to do so early in the season.

The Miami RB is an ideal fit in a Dolphins offense that is built for extra speed, and the frequent durability concerns of Raheem Mostert could pave the way to lead RB duties at some point. Someone in your league is going to go all in on Achane on the waiver wire, so be prepared to part with the bulk of the available dollars.

De’Von Achane FAAB Bid: You will have to spend approximately 75% of the available budget or maybe even slightly more to have a realistic shot of landing Achane. Doing so while still leaving something in the budget will just have to alter the free-agency approach going forward, where FAAB dollars can be allotted to forward-looking moves or plug-ins the rest of the way.

Most free agent targets in the weeks ahead won’t be worthy of such a high bid, and you can’t pass on the opportunity to acquire such a significant upside performer when he is available on free agency.

Roschon Johnson, Chicago Bears (58%)

The running game was not a factor in the Bears’ blowout loss to the Chiefs on Sunday. Yet Johnson was the first RB called on, and the rookie averaged 4.7 yards per carry on his eight rushing attempts.

Published reports highlighted that Johnson has been an internal favorite since the preseason. His role may expand in the weeks ahead as the Bears attempt to possibly lean more on the ground game to boost the offense.

Roschon Johnson FAAB Bid: 12% of your available budget

Tank Dell, Houston Texans (48%)

Dell has already silenced any narratives that a 165-pound WR cannot be a regular threat. He has 12 receptions on 17 targets for 217 yards and two TDs in his last two games.

The rookie from Houston apparently feels right at home with the Texans already and is the best downfield playmaker on the roster.

Tank Dell FAAB Bid: 17% of your available budget

Romeo Doubs, Green Bay Packers (51%)

The second-year man already has three TD catches, and Doubs finished with five receptions for 73 yards on 12 targets in a comeback win over the Saints. His output may slip a bit when Christian Watson (hamstring) returns, though.

If Watson is back in the mix this week to further deepen the Green Bay WR corps, keep a watch on the TNF odds in the Packers-Lions matchup.

Romeo Doubs FAAB Bid: 12% of your available budget

OVERREACTION: The Cowboys are not Super Bowl contenders

After starting off the year with two blowout wins over the Giants and Jets, the Cowboys laid an egg on the road with a loss against the Cardinals despite being double-digit favorites on the point spread.

This was just one of those games where everything went wrong for the Cowboys, including a failed fourth down attempt in the red zone along with an interception in the end zone.

We have to give some credit to the Cardinals, who continue to play hard under new head coach Jonathan Gannon.

Despite the loss, I still view the Cowboys as one of the top teams in the NFL, led by their elite defense. Look for a much better showing against the Patriots in Week 4.

UNDERREACTION: The Browns may be the best team in the AFC North

The Browns are coming off a 27-3 blowout over the Titans and could easily be 3-0 right now if it weren’t for a pair of defensive touchdowns surrendered by Deshaun Watson in their 26-22 loss against the Steelers.

This defense looks legit, allowing only 408 passing yards and 4.69 yards per attempt this season. The pass rush, led by star defensive end Myles Garrett, is going to cause problems for teams all year long.

Watson also looked a lot better against the Titans, throwing for 289 yards and two touchdowns. If he can continue to get back on track, this team can win their division and make some noise in the playoffs.

PLAYER NEWS & INJURIES TO KEEP AN EYE ON 📰👀

Mike Williams, WR, LAC (torn ACL)

Mike Williams suffered a torn ACL in the Chargers’ 28-24 win over the Vikings. It’s a shame to see this happen to such a talented player, who put up seven catches for 121 yards and a touchdown against Minnesota. We wish him a full recovery.

Look for Keenan Allen to continue to get peppered with targets. The veteran could be on his way to a career year. We also should see Joshua Palmer get more looks in Williams’ absence. Perhaps this will finally open the door for rookie Quentin Johnston to get more playing time.

Lastly, Austin Ekeler should see an even more prominent role in the passing game one he’s ready to return.

Derek Carr, QB, NO (shoulder)

Derek Carr suffered a shoulder injury against the Packers, which could keep him out for a few weeks. That puts Jameis Winston into the starting role. The former Buccaneers’ quarterback completed 10-of-16 passes for 101 yards in relief of Carr on Sunday.

If the Saints allow Winston to turn it loose like he did in his Tampa Bay days, that could be great news for Chris Olave (8 REC, 104 YDS on Sunday) and Michael Thomas (9 TGT vs GB).

With Alvin Kamara returning in Week 4, Winston is set up for success with a strong supporting cast. He’ll be on the streaming radar against his old team in the Bucs in his next matchup.

EARLY LOOK AT WEEK 4 BETTING LINES 💰🎰

Early Week 4 betting lines are provided by DraftKings Sportsbook as of noon on Sept. 25.

Dolphins +2.5 (-102) at Bills

Despite their 70-20 win over the Broncos, the Dolphins come in as short road underdogs against the Bills in a pivotal AFC East divisional tilt.

Miami is firing on all cylinders right now and just unleashed yet another offensive weapon in De’Von Achane.

The Bills are coming off two blowout wins of their own, but this is a statement game for the Dolphins to show that they’re truly one of the elite teams in the AFC. They look like a strong value play for Week 4.

49ers -14 (-110) vs Cardinals

The market clearly isn’t buying into Arizona, even after their upset win over the Cowboys. While the Cardinals have played hard under Jonathan Gannon, this is a tough spot for them.

The 49ers look like the best team in the NFL right now and will be coming off a longer layoff having played on Thursday Night Football in Week 3.

It’s hard to see how Joshua Dobbs and company can move the ball against Nick Bosa and this 49ers defense in a road game in a tough environment.

Texans +3.5 (-115) vs Steelers

The Texans just upset the Jaguars in a convincing 37-17 win, yet they’re getting 3.5 points at home against Kenny Pickett and the Steelers.

While Pittsburgh has won two in a row, C.J. Stroud and this passing game look terrific for Houston right now.

We just saw the Steelers get burned by Davante Adams, so look out for Nico Collins and Tank Dell in this one.

The Texans need more respect with how Stroud has played, so be sure to jump on this line now, as we get it past the key number of 3 with the hook (half point).
