Why are Traditions so Important in Sports?
Baseball's coming soon so we've got some traditions & offers for you!
There are two distinct types of traditions in the world of sports: team/sports traditions and personal fan traditions. My top 10 examples of team/sport traditions include:
The Lambeau Leap
The Gatorade Bath
Notre Dame slapping the “Play Like a Champion” sign
Pie in the face after a walk-off
Storming the court/field after a victory
Throwing the ball back from an opposing team’s home run
Hockey playoff beards
Drinking milk after the Indy 500
Not acknowledging a player's first home run
Cutting down the net during March Madness
Sports traditions hold a special place in all of our hearts. They create a sense of community and connection that goes beyond the game itself, bringing people together in a shared history and culture. There is something sentimental about the way these traditions can spark memories and emotions, reminding us of great moments, cherished victories, and even heartbreaking defeats. They are a symbol of the enduring passion and loyalty that drives us to support our teams, through good times and bad.

Fan traditions, on the other hand, are a unique and personal way for fans to connect with their favorite sport, team, event, or person. They create a shared experience that fans can look forward to and reminisce about.
Fan traditions can vary widely in their scope and significance, ranging from simple gestures like wearing a lucky shirt or hat to something larger like tailgating before every football game. They often hold a sentimental value that goes beyond the actual game or event, serving as a way to create lasting memories and strengthen your bond with a team or loved one.
For example, I have a tradition of always watching the Mets opening day game with my dad. We are both huge fans and it was something we began when I was young and just started to enjoy baseball. Watching the game was always a bonding experience that brought us closer together and the tradition created lasting memories that I will always cherish.

Another one of our favorite traditions? Placing a futures bet on the Mets every Opening Day. There’s nothing like it: spring days, a cold beer, and blinding optimism that the Mets won’t Mets it.
