Week 3 Fantasy Football Waiver Wire

FRANK AMMIRANTE:

With Isiah Pacheco out for 6-8 weeks, fantasy football players are scrambling to find the next in line in the Chiefs backfield.

After all, having the running back next to Patrick Mahomes can be a valuable asset to your fantasy team.

This situation is tricky with Samaje Perine, Carson Steele, and Kareem Hunt.

I’m placing my chips on Perine because he’s the best pass-blocker and receiver of the group. Targets are more valuable than carries, so this feels like a better bet.

Let’s also remember that the Chiefs signed Perine immediately when he was released by the Broncos.

Perine also performed well as starter in 2022 in Cincinnati when Joe Mixon missed two games. During this stretch, Perine combined for 245 total yards and one touchdown.

On the other hand, Steele is a rookie who also works as the team’s fullback. I could see him taking away red-zone work and early-down carries at times, but I prefer Perine.

Having said that, I’m still willing to prioritize both of these running backs.

As for Hunt, I think he’s well past his prime and was just brought in as veteran depth.

👀 Fantasy Football Roundup

Stock Up:

Brock Bowers came into this year considered one of the best tight end prospects of all time. So far, the former Georgia star is living up to those lofty expectations.

We just watched Bowers catch all nine of his targets for 98 yards against a tough Ravens defense. The rookie now has 15 receptions and 156 yards in two games.

It’s time to start considering Bowers as an elite tight end in fantasy football.

This is compounded by the fact that higher-priced options like Sam LaPorta, Travis Kelce, Mark Andrews, and Dalton Kincaid have gotten off to slow starts.

Bowers is the clear-cut number-two target for the Raiders, and Gardner Minshew is going to have to air it out as they play from behind.

Bet on talent here and buy high on Bowers.

Stock Down:

Dalton Kincaid is off to a poor start for the Bills, combining for five catches and 44 yards in two games.

The problem here is that this is a run-heavy offense where Josh Allen spreads the wealth through the air.

Kincaid is also getting most of his targets closer to the line of scrimmage instead of downfield, which limits his upside.

I would recommend trying to move on from Kincaid, hoping that someone still buys into him based on his high ADP coming into the season.

Try to see if you can ship off Kincaid for Brock Bowers. Add an extra piece to try to sweeten the deal — perhaps an upside RB stash like Bucky Irving or Ty Chandler.
