Week 9 TNF: Texans vs Jets

Plus: Fantasy Football Rankings, NFL Props, NFL Parlays, & SNF

Thursday Night Football features an AFC matchup between the Houston Texans and New York Jets in Week 9.

The Texans (6-2) are coming off a close win over the division-rival Colts, while the Jets (2-6) suffered a disappointing loss to the Patriots.

Here’s a sneak peek of my best bets for this Week 9 TNF matchup:

C.J. Stroud: Under 225.5 Passing Yards (-115)

C.J. Stroud has played seven outdoor games in his career, averaging 198.1 passing yards per game and 6.5 yards per attempt in those matchups.

The Texans ranked 12th in Pass EPA with Nico Collins and 23rd without him. Now without Stefon Diggs on top of that, we could see this unit struggle even more.

As mentioned above, Stroud threw for only 96 yards against this defense last year.

🏈 Fantasy Football Rankings

Frank Ammirante finished No. 6 in fantasy football rankings in the FantasyPros Accuracy contest. He’s currently 28th overall, so be sure to use these ranks to help set your lineups.

Here’s a preview of our Week 9 fantasy football rankings:

  • Bijan Robinson has put up 20+ fantasy points in three consecutive games. This is a smash spot at home vs the Cowboys, who rank 32nd in Rush EPA.

  • Josh Downs got loose downfield last week. The Year 2 wideout gets a major upgrade with Joe Flacco under center. The Vikings rank 31st in fantasy PPG vs WRs.

  • You can continue firing up Cade Otton with confidence. This is a terrific matchup vs the Chiefs, who rank 31st in fantasy PPG vs tight ends.

🏈 NFL Props

Caleb Williams: Over 24.5 Rushing Yards (-115)

Check out what Caleb Williams has done on the ground in the last three games:

  • 10 carries, 41 yards

  • 4 carries, 56 yards

  • 5 carries, 34 yards

We've seen the rookie quarterback consistently under duress due to poor pass protection as well as him holding on the ball for too long.

All we need is 25+ rushing yards here, so I'll take my chances in a game where the Bears should be able to sustain drives vs a vulnerable Cardinals defense.

🏈 NFL Parlays

Lions vs Packers Week 9 SGP (+180)

  • Packers +3.5 (-115)

  • Under 52.5 Points (-185)

My Week 9 same-game parlay zeroes in on the NFC North showdown between the Detroit Lions (6-1) and the Green Bay Packers (6-2) at Lambeau Field. This will be the first meeting between these two rivals this season, as they will potentially play for the division title at Ford Field on Dec. 5.

For Sunday's matchup, I'm taking the points with the Packers at home. Lions quarterback Jared Goff is on a roll right now, but he has historically been much less efficient outdoors. Last season, his passer rating dipped from 104.0 indoors to 87.9 outdoors. Detroit hasn't played an outdoor game yet this season and will take on an aggressive Packers defense that leads the league in takeaways (19).

The Lions will be without wide receiver Jameson Williams (suspension), who gave this offense another dimension as a vertical deep threat. Without him, Detroit OC Ben Johnson will have to be more conservative, relying on his impressive offensive line and running backs to move the ball up and down the field.

That plan of attack should keep the clock moving, leading me to the Under. Plus, both quarterbacks are on the injury report right now, so I don't necessarily see this game playing out as the shootout that many might expect. Still, I'll tease this total up a bit in case we get a final like 27-24 Detroit.

Take the points with the Packers and the Under in this NFC North rivalry game.

🏈 Sunday Night Football

The Week 9 edition of Sunday Night Football was originally going to feature the Eagles and Jaguars, but the NFL used its flex scheduling power to showcase an interconference matchup between the Indianapolis Colts (4-4) and the Minnesota Vikings (5-2).

After a 5-0 start, the Vikings are coming off back-to-back defeats to the Rams and Lions. The Colts also enter this matchup on the back of a loss: a 23-20 setback to the Texans that prompted a quarterback change.

Things are pretty ugly in Indianapolis right now, and I’m not expecting a visit to Minnesota to improve matters.

Colts coach Shane Steichen had no choice but to give the ball to Flacco following Richardson’s ridiculous decision to take one play off during Sunday’s loss to Houston because he was tired after a third-quarter scramble.

That choice to pull himself for a third-and-goal play from the 23-yard line was likely the final straw for Richardson, who has statistically been one of the league’s worst quarterbacks this season. He ranks last in completion percentage (44%) and passing success rate (32.4%) among 31 qualifying passers.

Flacco gave the Indy offense a jolt in two starts and a relief appearance when Richardson was injured last month. However, the 39-year-old had the luxury of facing defenses in Pittsburgh and Jacksonville, which have the two lowest blitz rates in the league.

That won’t be the case this weekend against the blitz-heavy Vikings, who disguise their pressures particularly well. We’ve already seen Minnesota tee off on 40-year-old statue Aaron Rodgers (3 INT), and I’m expecting a similar attack plan Sunday night.

SNF Score Prediction: Vikings 27, Colts 17
