5 PLAYERS YOU NEED TO TARGET ON WAIVERS 🎯

WR Nico Collins (41% available):

In fantasy football, we want to take bets on players we think have a good chance to provide spike potential, and Collins fits the bill here. He is the ready-made WR1 for C.J. Stroud and the Texans, and he might show that he has FLEX potential right away with a Week 1 matchup against Baltimore that is sure to have Stroud slinging the rock plenty.

WR Van Jefferson (83% available):

We don’t want to overreact too hard to the Cooper Kupp seeing a body specialist news, but we absolutely should be playing it safe by picking up Jefferson while we see what’s what. Van J posted the best aDOT (average Depth of Target) in the league (15.6) last season while playing with an injured Matthew Stafford, Baker Mayfield, Bryce Perkins, and John Wolford.

TE Sam LaPorta (72% available)

LaPorta could finally break the stigma of rookie tight ends not immediately producing for fantasy this season, given that Jameson Williams is suspended for the first six weeks of the season and won’t be allowed inside the facility. This slots LaPorta in as the second or third passing target, dependent on how you view Jahmyr Gibbs as a pass-catcher. Either way, LaPorta could be the immediate red zone target for Jared Goff.

WR Marvin Mims (87% available)

You absolutely want a field-stretcher in Sean Payton’s offense, and Mims is that guy for Denver as Jerry Jeudy continues to recover from another soft-tissue injury. Mims had a 91st percentile burst score and 95th percentile 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine this spring so he can get down the field with ease. Last year, the Raiders allowed the ninth-most receiving yards per game.

RB Tank Bigsby (73% available)

Who’s going to fade a guy named TANK? Certainly not me. The Jaguars’ rookie has impressed this offseason, with him receiving goal line work at times during the preseason as well as a 20% route share. If Travis Etienne stumbles out of the gate, Bigsby could earn a larger slice.

PLAYER NEWS TO KEEP AN EYE ON 📰👀

Will Nick Bosa Suit Up for Week 1?

Fantasy managers should be keeping an eye on the 49ers defense, especially if they roster Najee Harris. Bosa has been negotiating with 49ers brass for a new contract, and it feels like this could go up to the second for Bosa to show up. I personally think Bosa will make it in for gametime this weekend, and thus am betting on Harris’ UNDER in rushing yards against the brick wall that the 49ers had as a DL last season.

Travis Kelce Hyperextends Knee, Uncertain for Week 1

TE1 Kelce has had a clean bill of health for so long, nobody ever expects him to get injured. Well, it happened, and at the worst possible time with two days before Week 1 and after most people have completed their drafts and him nearly universally going in the first round.

Now what? Well, Noah Gray would be the handcuff tight end to Kelce, but there’s no way he’d get Kelce’s full workload, so be cautious. We’re keeping an eye on things here, but expect Kelce to miss Week 1, and possibly Week 2.

OVERREACTION OF THE WEEK 🚨🤭

Kyle Pitts projected as the 4th target in Falcons offense, per beat reporter

People are FREAKING OUT over this nugget shared by Atlanta Falcons’ beat reporter Josh Kendall of The Athletic, who stated that Pitts would “not be any higher than fourth on this team in targets.” It’s important to note that he later amended this to targets and carries, but still, Pitts garnered a 34.3% target rate (#1) and 27.3% target share (#2) last season. He’s a dynamic TE/WR hybrid that produces mismatches all over the field.

If Arthur Smith isn’t able to utilize that into his offensive scheme, we riot. I still think Pitts is a unicorn player and will produce a top-five season this year. I have him ranked TE5.

INTRIGUING PLAYER STATS 📊

Sam LaPorta accounted for nearly 30% of Iowa’s receiving production in 2022, and the Kansas City Chiefs allowed almost 15 more yards per game to tight ends than any other NFL team last season.

Patrick Mahomes has never lost a Week 1 game in his NFL career, and averages 308 passing yards and 3.5 touchdowns.
